Community
FVRL is a recognized community hub and provider of information that supports the goals of each of our communities.
Increase emergency preparedness.
Support sustainable practices.
Support healing through Truth and Reconciliation.
Community is both a feeling and a set of relationships among people. It is about shared experiences and a sense of shared history that creates a fundamental feeling of belonging. Libraries are essential to communities. They provide access to information and resources, support literacy and education, promote lifelong learning, and serve as a community gathering space.
Increase Emergency Preparedness
The increasing probability of impacts from forest fires, floods, cyber attacks and other external threats to our business operations require resilient emergency response planning and preparedness. FVRL will achieve this by:
reviewing, updating and testing our Emergency Preparedness Program;
collaborating and integrating with the emergency preparedness programs of our communities; and
implementing strategies to reduce the potential impact and cost of service interruptions.
This initiative will support the communities we serve and improve library service by increasing community resilience in the face of unexpected events.
Support Sustainable Practices
Changes in the environment are raising concerns about the future viability of business operations in many industries. Libraries are grounded in sustainable practices built on sharing and reusing resources. We will strengthen our commitment by:
achieving library certification in environmental sustainability;
exploring and implementing more sustainable practices; and
supporting educational programs and events.
This initiative will support the communities we serve and improve library service by building a structured path forward towards more sustainable practices.
Support Healing Through Truth and Reconciliation
It is important for libraries, as a cornerstone of our communities, to respectfully participate in Truth and Reconciliation. We support reconciliation and healing through listening, learning and sharing of Indigenous stories. We will take meaningful steps towards reconciliation by:
building and sustaining respectful Indigenous relationships;
supporting Truth and Reconciliation efforts of our communities; and
exploring opportunities to highlight Indigenous excellence.
This initiative will support the communities we serve and improve library service by furthering reconciliation and healing in our communities.
